Series Summary

Though Musselburgh, Scotland is home to The Old Links, oldest golf course in the world, golf is rumored to have begun in the Netherlands in 1297. After seven hundred years it still follows the same basic premise: hit a ball into a hole using a stick; the person who gets it in the least number of hits, wins. Today, a golfer may have any number of sticks, called clubs, made up of wood, graphite, or titanium. Each club has a specific use depending on the type, whether it’s the driver for an opening long ball, the wedge for shots out of the sand trap, the putter for the last short shot into the hole, or a variety of irons for anything in between.

In this free video series a professional golfer, Hill Marks, will show you several methods for hitting a golf ball out of various lies. Lies are a constant variable in golf, which can alter a golfer's swing method and approach. You will begin your golf lesson by hitting from the most perfect lie in golf, the flat fairway. Hill will then show you several techniques for hitting different clubs from different locations. You'll learn to hit out of the rough, loose soil, hard pan, side hill lies and even uphill lies. Hill will also show you how to hit from these areas using different clubs in your bag. In the end you'll know more about lies and swing techniques, which will get you out on the golf course and scoring low.

"Okay, so we did a drive, or a tee shot, and we're right at a nice level piece of fairway here. So, this is like the greatest lie you're going to get in golf. So the ball is on a level fairway so you're going to have a level stance. So, you've got to just take advantage of these types of shots because you don't always get them. Even when you hit a good drive a lot of times, you might be on a side slope, down slope, up slope or catch a little thick grass or what have you, or be on hard pan. So, we've got a nice lie here so, I want you to think, this is a nice hole. Don't get too excited because you don't want to blow the opportunity. So, just relax and so, just get to this ball, it's on a nice level fairway, and get proper alignment. Check the wind and everything that you need to do here and just get lined up, have the proper club, so have your distance all set, and now just take a good swing. So, I think this is going to be a pretty good hole, so, I like the way that shot went. So, when you get a nice lie like this, you've really got to take advantage of it because they're not always perfect in the game of golf. So, this is just playing a perfect lie, nice grass, it's a perfect position, so, work on these shots. Most people at the range, that's all they work on is this shot but, as you can see, when you play golf, there's a lot of other shots to work on. So, take advantage of this one and then we're going to show you some more."
