"Hi my name is Geoff Sterling from Hollywood Soo Bahk Do and all the segments we have just talked about have more to do with traditional stances third grade - you need to know your basics and how to work with these traditional stances but a lot of times they are just to kind of help you understand Soo Bahk Do but when you get more into free sparring even in practice situations or in tournaments and point sparring especially when you are defending yourself you don't want to get locked into these stances but you want to be free flowing. We are going to work on a sparring stance right now. It is kind of like a back stance. Instead of being right here you are going to be more opposite in terms of where he weight distribution is. Your weight is going to be more on the front foot and you are kind of relaxed and kind of flowing. Also when you are in this stance you want to be able to hop around and be light on your feet. You kind of want to make a variation of this and you can be more to the side or you can be more like this. If you are like this it is good because you can push off that back foot and again it is like track and field, a sprinter coming off the starting block or it?s like a fencer with the tip so when you are sparring here you are like this. You need to get used to moving out of the stance, shuffle forward, shuffle back and usually you want to take shorter choppier steps like that and you don't want to take big steps but you just want to make short choppy steps. You can also pivot 180 degrees you can pivot forward and back and I will show you a sideways profile of that. Usually pivoting would be good when you are back peddling and the reason it applies is say somebody was attacking you say you were trying to block and we will talk about blocks later but you could be blocking somebody while you are stepping backwards so it is kind of like you do cross your legs there. I just want to do it with an open stance or a closed stance but that is certain ways you can move and you can drill these at home of how you can move and spar in Soo Bahk Do. Thank you for watching."
