"Hello I am Geoff Sterling of Hollywood Soo Bahk Do and I am going to be showing you a flying side kick. A flying side kick is where your back leg pivots in the air, thrusting out, hitting with your heel and while you are in the air getting closed and opened in the positions we have been talking about with relation to Soo Bahk Do and it is a very very powerful, very high flying kick if you can jump high and it looks cool. If you have ever seen it on TV or on movies it is a very interesting kick and it has a lot of power and you get a lot of height with it. I am going to show you how to practice it. First off you get used to the timing of the jump, how you get in the air. You take any comfortable stance with one leg forward and one leg back. It is kind of like you are springing off of a diving board and the leg that is in the front kind of pivots like that and you step forward and then jump. So with the back leg again you are going to put that knee close to your chest to give you that motion and get as high as you can. So the leg comes up this way, going back and jumping forward like that. I will show you from a side angle now. Foot comes out and then goes out. Also if you noticed in that last one the foot that is in the air, the trailing foot is going to tuck up like that when you do the side kick. I am going to put all the pieces together and demonstrate on this bag right here. So you are like this with one leg forward and the other leg back, you are going to kick it with the heel. Now we will demonstrate the entire kick, not just from one step but from the full sprint. They used to do this in ancient times, they used to knock soldiers off their horses. They used to be running and they would be able to jump up in the air so high that they would knock off soldiers on horseback. So that is some of the origins of this kick and I am going to demonstrate it full sprint. You can practice it and get used to either way to do the kick. That was a flying side kick. Thank you very much."
