"Hi I am Geoff Sterling of Hollywood Soo Bahk Do and this is going to be a side kick demonstration. It is difficult from a front kick and a round kick in that you are going to kick with the heel of your foot now. So again be in a comfortable position and again emphasizing the closed and opened aspect of Soo Bahk Do and how Soo Bahk Do utilizes its kicks. Since this is a side kick you are going to turn your body sideways which is a great way of protecting yourself and it is very important in Soo Bahk Do to protect yourself during the intermediate technique. So as you are setting yourself up for the kick you are still shielding yourself from possible attacks so I am going to turn my body sideways and I am going to be closed this way. Notice I am closed and I am kind of balling up. I am bending this leg right here because if I get closed like that and keep my leg straight I will lose my balance so I bend tight this way and I am very closed. Now I am going to open my body and throw the kick with the heel so it is going to be like this, and closed again. Go back and one more time a little more fluid. Closed, open, closed and back. I will show you at regular speed now and it will look like this. That was a high side kick. That would be a kick you could do below the nose to protect yourself or injure someone else. You could also throw a kick to basically right below where the rib cage ends so that would look like this. Now I will demonstrate one time on the bag. Like this right here and this will be a side kick on the bag, notice where I hit it and I am not going to hit it with the ball of my foot, I'm not going to hit it with the blade of my foot, I'm going to hit it with my heel. And that was a side kick. Thank you very much."
