"Hi, my name is Debbie and I’ve been teaching informal mountain bike classes for over ten years. Today’s clip will be about how to lift your front wheel. When you’re out trail riding, there are often obstacles both natural and man-made in the trail that require you to negotiate one way or another. Of course you can always walk over anything that you feel uncomfortable riding, but if you feel like riding something, you’re most often going to have to lift your front wheel. When you are preparing to lift your front wheel, you want to be off the saddle and have your pedals level. Just before the lift you want to lean forward, compress your fork, and then raise up, also moving your hips down, which will help lift the front end of your bike. I’ll first show how to just lift the front end of your bike a few times, and then we’ll roll over some obstacles. Compress your fork, lift up, and throw your hips back. When you’re negotiating obstacle on the trail remember, commit or quit. If you get halfway though it and you get scared, you’re likely to get hurt. Commit or quit. Lift your front wheel over the obstacle, stay balanced on your bike and you’ll be fine."
