"DAVE TYLER: Hand checking is an often called violation as well. A hand check would count as a personal foul in basketball. In high school basketball, each player is allowed five fouls before they foul out. So hand checking is a violation, and it counts as a personal foul. Often hand checking is one or two hands on the defender. The mechanic for hand checking would be a whistle, let the table know who the foul was on, 32, and then hand check. That's also sometimes referred to as a hold. Okay, we're going to look at our players now hand-checking. Player A is dribbling the ball, notice that player B has a hand on his body and is stopping his movement. Okay, you cannot impede the movement and that would be called a hand check."
