Krav Maga is a self-defense method used in hand-to-hand combat that was developed in Israel. The version that is taught to civilians is often a simplified version of the art that is used by the Israeli Security Forces and law enforcement officers. Because there are certain techniques that are deadly, there are legal constraints on teaching the civilians certain moves. “Krav Maga” generally means “close combat” in Hebrew and was developed in the 1930s by Imi Lichtenfeld. It was first used to protect the Jewish community from Nazi militias and is taught today as a self defense method.
In this series of videos, learn the basic self defense moves associated with Krav Maga. Watch as our expert demonstrates the basic knee strikes and the seven elbow strikes used to defend yourself against an attacker. Krav Maga is a face-to-face combat method and therefore, all the strikes, kicks and blocks are administered very close together. At the site of the attack across from behind in a choking motion, you will bring your hands up, bring your elbows directly behind and hands behind. From the hand position, thumbs inside will be grabbing and pulling at their thumb level. As your grab the hands, you will be taking the motions down past the shoulders. As you do that, passing shoulder motion, you will take your foot step out of 45 degree angle. As a continuous motion you will being your hand down and then continuously strike the groin area. "
