" Hi my name is Dan and I'm here with Expert Village. Today I'm going to show you how to make a common whipping. Whipping is a means for keeping lines from fraying. It is best to start with an unfrayed line. So I'm going to cut the end off of this and wrap the very end with tape. There are a number of decorative whippings but this one is the quickest and easiest. Take a needle with a piece of sail twine which is very strong material and pass it through the center of the line. Pull it through until you have three inches of tail and then make a loop facing the top of the line with your tail. Next beginning wrapping the end of the twain with the needle on it and pulling very tightly. Wrap it upwards towards the end of your line. When you have finish for you have wrap near the top of your line pass your needle through the very end. Now pull on the tail which will draw the end of your line down making it very tight. Then simply trim off the ends. Melt any fray material. Now you have a strong and permanent end of the rope which will not fray."
