" Hi my name is Dan and I'm here with Expert Village. Today I'm going to show you how to tie a marlin spike hitch. There is a good means for getting a line on a boat very tight. You need a marlin spike which is typically used for untying knots or a nail or other piece of strong material. To start have the working end of the rope laid out behind you. Take your marlin spike and pinch it on your line. Next cross the line over itself and then bring the marlin spike around and under the line. This creates a fixed loop in your line that you can pull on. It is good for getting for reefing on a sail or for tighten sheets. I can show you one more time. That is the marlin spike hitch. It also slips out when you pull your marlin spike out of it. "
