" Hi! My name is Dan, and I am here with Expert Village today to talk a little bit about slings for climbing. Slings come in a variety of lengths and are typically made with a reinforced stitching. There are also a number of materials that can be used to make them. This is hollow core webbing, which if you squeeze it you can feel that it is actually a tube. Whereas a sling like this, this is actually a quick draw. This material is not hollow at all, and it has little lines of spectra, which is an incredibly strong monofilament fiber, which means it is one continuous strand all the way around. Slings can be useful for a number of things: clipping onto carabineers, clipping on to your harness, you can clip yourself to the top of a climb; you can anchor yourself to a tree if you are anchoring from the bottom and climbing. So again, it is very useful to have a number of different lengths of slings on hand, and also different colors which will help you visually identify which sling is going to which attachment. So those are some of the basic things to think about when you are looking at slings. "
