" Hi! My name is Dan, and I am here with Expert Village today to talk about some climbing gear. At this point, I am going to talk about a rope bag. A rope bag, true to its name, is a bag that you keep a rope in. A rope is usually a fairly serious investment, costing a $150 or more, so if you get one, like any investment, you want to protect it. Also, a rope bag has a number of practical uses as opposed to just a storage bag. Some of the nicer rope bags will come with a tarp that you can lay out on the ground and put your rope inside of. This accomplishes a number of things. It keeps dirt and grime off of your rope which, in turn, will allow your rope to live longer. Also if you flake out your rope, or coil it without coiling it, some rope bags have little tabs on either corner of their tarp you can tie one end of the rope to, and then the other end, when you are ready to use the rope, even if it looks like a mess, it will all pull out evenly. At the end of the day, packaging up your rope is as simple as folding up your tarp and stuffing it into your bag. Another nice feature to some rope bags is that they have a little key pocket, so you can put your wallet, cash and a credit card in here and not have it in your pocket while climbing. Once you are ready to go, tighten down all your straps and sling it over your shoulder. So the rope bag, while not necessary, is a very nice addition to any climbing set up. "
