" Hi! My name is Dan and I’m here with Expert Village. Right now, I’m going to talk about some of the safety concerns with petroleum fires. If you have a campfire and you’re going to be using a cook stove to cook your meal, you want to make sure it’s placed far enough away from your fire, that flying sparks aren’t going to be an issue for you. In case you’ve spilled some petroleum, and that does catch on fire, it’s best to smother it with sand. You want inorganic sand with as few twigs and roots in it as possible. If you use water the petroleum will float on top of the water and you’ll actually spread your fire. In case your fuel line or fuel bottle catches on fire, you want to remove yourself from the vicinity but stay close enough so that you can monitor the flame in case of explosion. You also want to send someone for help, if at all possible. So those are some of the few basic principles of petroleum fire safety in the woods. "
