"Hi, my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center and today we're going to be showing you the proper Reverse Punch. Okay, so you could start from the feet together position, fist to hip, okay, you want to step out with your left leg and punch with your right hand. The Reverse Punch is called the Reverse Punch because it's from your rear side. So whatever hand you're punching with, you want the opposite leg forward. Okay, then you can advance with the punch, turn out the foot, you want the foot and the back leg and step, punch with the other side. Okay, if you'll notice from the front, facing this way, okay, the front shoulder, the one that is punching advances further forward than the rear shoulder. You want to twist with the hips so you get the proper power, and you want to have the proper extension for the punch. You don't want to have your shoulders squared, like this. If you noticed, you won't be able to reach too much passed your own leg. So you want to twist and reach beyond that to get the proper power from the rotation of the hip. Now, the rear shoulder you want to pull it back, keep the head straight, front leg bent, toes turn in, back leg straight. Okay, now some common application for the Reverse Punch. Okay, so somebody punches straight forward, okay, you block, you can advance straight in with your rear hand and punch straight to the rib. Or, if they punch, okay, you block in, punch straight to the face. Also, it's good against kicks. If someone kicks with their back leg, okay, you can block straight in, move in and punch. Okay. The Reverse Punch is powerful because you gain more power from your rear hand. That is the proper way to perform the Reverse Punch."
