Hi, my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center and today we're going to be showing you the proper way to perform a Shin Kick. So from a fighting position, your back leg, okay, you're going to pick the leg up, okay, like this, turn the toes out, and kick straight. Okay, you're kicking with the bottom of the foot, preferably the middle or the heel. This is a very low kick, so you're here, you can step out a little bit, pick up the leg, and then thrust it straight out and down. Okay, this kick is good as an attack or as a defense. Okay. So if he comes in with a punch, okay, I can block here and immediately take out either his knee, like this, a stopping action or I can kick straight to the shin, this way. Or, if he was to attack, all I have to do, so easy steps, just kick and you can lean slightly away. Okay, it's very important, use this part of the foot, if you use the toes, okay, as you could see, so if I was to kick him, there's no power in the kick or at least not enough to stop someone who is really advancing. Also, if he was to try to throw a sidekick at me, okay, I can use it to stop a kick. Also, if he was to punch, okay, I could side step and I could kick the back leg this way. Okay. But you want to keep this kick mainly on the lower quarters of the leg, the knee or to the shin. And that's the proper way to perform the Shin Kick.
