Hi, my name is Dan Schmidt from the Chinese Martial Arts Center and today we're going to be showing you how to do the proper Slide Up Side Kick. Okay, so you could start from the fighting stance, okay, also known as just the natural stance, your fighting position. Okay, your hands up, now with your rear leg, you want to take a small step up very close to your opposite foot, you want to pick up the knee and you want to sidekick. Okay, then straight back down, and then step back to your starting position. So you step up, pick up the knee, sidekick, straight back and step backwards. Okay, now with the sidekick, you're kicking with the blade of the foot, not necessarily the bottom of the foot. So almost like a stamping action, but taking place to your side, this way. Okay, so you perform it, step up, kick, straight back and down. Okay, if you notice it from this angle, so you step up, then pick up the knee, straight up, throw out the kick, bring it straight back in the way it came down and then you step back. Okay, some common applications for the Side Kick, you can use it as an attack or you can use it as a defense. Okay, as a defense, it's good against punches from the front hand. So they punch, okay, you can block, you step up, grab and you kick straight to the ribs. You can also pull the arm and then pull them in your kick, this way. Okay, very easy to break the ribs. Also, you can perform it at a different heights. Okay, it's very good against the legs, so if someone comes in, you can kick straight to the shin. Okay, if they come in, you can step up, kick straight to the knee this way, pressing down. Okay. Also, it doesn't matter what side they punch from, they can throw a hook, okay, you can lean and you could still do it, you can block, step up, straight to the rib and you could follow up with anything. It's very powerful kick. Okay. And that is the proper way to perform a Step Up Side Kick.
