"I’ll be talking about gearing up for warm weather. When you’re in the desert or a warm climate, there’s some things that are very important. One thing is how you dress, it’s very important to wear a hat, a hat that’s going to shade you and a hat that will also wick away the moisture and the heat from your head. A hat like this is very good, notice the rim up here, the dark rim – it’s netting so that the heat in your head has an opportunity to escape, but also it’s a wide brim to shade you, you want to be shaded from the sun because the sun is very intense. You could easily get overheated or burned. And also another very important thing in the desert is to carry plenty of water; usually if I’m in the hot desert I will drink water before I even start my hike. I will load myself up with water knowing that I’m going to perspire and dehydrate if I don’t drink water. And then I always carry more than what I think I will need, I would rather throw away water at the end of the day and carry that extra weight than not have enough water because not having enough water is going to be disastrous. When it’s hot out you will be drinking a lot of water so do carry a lot of water, don’t be afraid to take extra water even though it’s going to be some extra weight. When I’m in the high desert, wear a lot of sunscreen on your legs on your pants, either that or wear a long shirt, I almost like doing that better sometimes and also wear long pants. The type of pants your should be wearing is the synthetic type of pant, they’re very light, but they give you good protection."
