"Hi I’m Chris Van London, on behalf of Expert Village I’ll be talking about gearing up for cold weather. Your gear is very important; you want to wear gear that is going to protect you from storms that are going to sweep in and possible get you wet. You can wear a poncho, that is a good device to wear or you can also wear Gore-Tex type of material, jackets – pants that will protect you from the rain. Usually of course if I am out in the rain and it is really-really raining hard you know you stop hiking. You do not want to be hiking in that kind of weather. Take a break, pitch a tent if you need to or if you do not have a tent, find a protected area and take a break. Boots are very important; my boots the type that I wear are ankle high boots so they are great in wet weather and they are also Gore-Tex boo. So they stay dry generally unless you get above the rim of the boot of course water is going to seep in. so the other thing about wet weather is that the dampness can be cool so you need to make sure you have layers of clothing that you can take on and off to adjust the temperature of your body.
