on 8/2/2008 I noticed that Chemin doesn't say "instep," but refers to the area between your ankle and shin. I wonder if she studied any Muay Thai? She also throws her body into the roundhouse, which is the only way I've been able to do it with control; if I do it against air, I can't really throw my hip/body into it, and stopping in mid-air has me wrestling with balance more so than against a target.

on 8/2/2008 Reviewing the video, she points from the instep to the lower shin. I think she prefers the instep without saying it, but she's showing that that larger area is "roundhouse approved." Logisitics, in sparring or a real situation, can't always be so precise as the instep, so I guess training to hit over the whole range of the striking area is the way to go.

Video Transcript

"My name is Chemin Alldredge. I am a 2nd degree Black Belt in Tae Kwan Do. I am here with Expert Village and today we are going to be going over beginner Cardio Kickboxing. For our third and final kick, we are going to do the Round Kick. This is my favorite kick. This kick has the most power. This kick is probably the most complicated so you want to make sure you do this kick correctly. When you want to do is when you are kicking your opponent, you are going to be kicking between your ankle and your shin area. What you're doing is you're pulling your leg back, arching my back, and I am executing the kick out. Once again, you're going to chamber back, kick and then bring it back. You want to make sure you are kicking underneath the arm. Now we are going to put more power into this kick. By doing that, we are going to use our back leg. We did a front leg Round Kick, which has great power, but if you want to add a lot more power, you're going to swing your hip around and you're going to kick. What I want to make sure you are going to do is I want you to turn your whole body. When you pick up your leg, you're turning your body and bringing it back. You want to make sure you pivot your foot. Many women tend to stop their kicks here and then they kind of hunch over. You never want to do that. When you do a back leg Round Kick, you want to bring that leg until you're opponent stops your kick. You're going to turn it, pull, back. If you stop here, you're not going to get enough power, so you want to throw your body all the way around and then bring it back. That is your Round Kick."
