There are number of successful ways to get down a rapid depending on what your doing if your out for a day just on a short run just play boating you can run a rapid slowly take your time kind of choose the different points along the rapid savor each section as you go. If your doing more of a down river tripping style run then you may want to be running rapids on the fly you may need to be running rapids on the fly you may need to be scouting from the boat a lot reading what's ahead of you. Just by getting some clues from the rapids themselves, the rules of V's are a good one to use. Down stream V's, V's in the water face away from you that point away from you are often good places to go because the indicate the conversions of 2 up stream pointing V's. The 2 up pointed stream V's indicate rocks, usually when there's a up stream pointed v it means there's a rock is sending off angle waves on each side of it. So if your headed down stream pointed V's and try to catch as many eddies as you need to, to make sure your never going into something your not sure of and not able to see from well ahead you have plenty of opportunities to stop. So really be careful with river running strategies depending on how experience you are in __the water your on you may feel more comfortable going straight down the river and running it pretty fast on the fly or you may even take more time and scout from shore and eddy hop to where you can scout from your boat as well. Just be careful play in conservatively and have fun out there.
