How to Light a Campfire

" Hi, this is Bruce Lessels from Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com. We’re going to talk about making a campfire and taking down a campfire and campfire safety. So now that we’ve built a nice looking fire we’re going to try and get it going and we’re going to try and do it with one match and ideally you can do it with a single match. There are a number of different ways to light a fire, you can light it with flint and steel or you can light it with a match or a lighter or a magnesium lighter but really we’re going to go for the one match method. The goal here is to light the fire as low as possible underneath the pile of kindling and if I can do that and get it going, get the kindling started and the kindling should work its way up into the teepee and the rest of it should get going. I’ve got some good birch bark here so I’m going to lit it and if I can lit it in a few places that helps as well, the lighter I can get the fire started the better and you can see how the fire is kind of working its way up through the birch bark into the kindling so even the kindling going and now its going to work way to the teepee and get the rest of it going and we should have a pretty good fire going here in a few minutes. So we got some fairly wet wood today so it may take a little bit to really get started but if we built the fire right and if we lit it from the bottom well enough it should eventually get catch on and get going. What you can also do to get it going if you need a little extra help is you can get down close to it and you can blow on the fire, blow on it nice and low and that gets the flame burning hotter."
