" Hi, this is Bruce Lessels from Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com, talking about choosing and setting up a campsite. Of course if you’re going to be in a campsite for very long you’re going to need to have a water source. You may be able to bring in a day or two worth of water yourself but generally a good water source is an important consideration for a campsite. A moving stream like this can be a great water source but it needs to be filtered. Never rely on water being cleaned without filtering it. There can be various types of bacteria in it, there can be naturally occurring bacteria Giardia is caused by beavers up stream or other animals up stream and so you want to make sure that you filter whatever water you use. Another way to find a portable water source is sometimes they’re marked on map, there are occasionally springs near campsites but again don’t rely on the springs being cleaned, pump the spring. You can get commercially available water filters that allow you to pump the water through the filter and clean the water by doing that and make it drinkable and those are well worth getting because they keep you from getting sick, they keep you healthy and they keep your camping experience a fun one."
