"Hi, this is Bruce Lessels from Zoar Outdoor on behalf of expertvillage.com, talking about low impact camping methods. When you’re in a area that doesn’t see a lot of use, there may not be already established campsites and if there aren’t but it is okay to camp there, what you want to do is find the site where people probably haven’t camped before and use it for 1 or 2 nights and put it back the way it was when you are done with it. An area like this might be able to accommodate one tent and maybe 1 or 2 people camping there and ideally once we’ve put our tent down there, we’ve spent our night there we can take up and return the site to the way it was before. In a lightly used area you don’t want to be reusing a site over and over again because that will start to impact it and the soil compaction will start to have an effect and eventually you’ll start to see die off of some of the plant species and then the trees around the area might start to be impacted as well. So in a lightly used area find a site that’s not been used before or it doesn’t appear to been used before and try to use that site carefully and return it to the way it was when you’re done."
