" Hi! This is Brian on behalf of expertvillage.com. Now we move on to the next step, which is the actual creation of the fire. As you can see here, I have started out with the bed of pine needles. These will form the basis of our fire as we are getting it started. They are very small, they catch on fire very quickly and easily, but they do not burn very long. So what we want to do is supplement that with some larger twigs that burn a little bit longer. What we’re doing here is building it up in what is called a teepee, as you can see it forms somewhat of a pyramid shape in the middle this helps the oxygen get to the bottom of the fire and keeps it burning. At the same time, the heat is rising up and catching the larger twigs on fire that are on top of the pine needles. This way we build up into gradually larger sizes until we are to introduce our full size log."
