"Hello! This is Brian on behalf of expertvillage.com. On our last step, we put together a fire ring. One thing I would like to do to help hold it together, and again to help prevent embers from blowing out of it, is to fill the gaps in between the rocks with the dirt that we have removed from the pit itself. That also helps us clean up our campsite as well. What you want to do is just take the clay and just pack it in between the joints between the rocks, like so. Again, this will help from wind blowing the embers out of the fire and help you maintain a neater fire pit throughout the duration of your stay. One of the nice things is, as the fire heats up the clay, it will cause it to harden and help bond the rocks together. So you have a stable and long lasting fire pit as well."
