" Welcome back! This is Brian on behalf of expertvillage.com. The next thing you want to do before you pack down your tent completely is ensure that it is cleaned out on the inside and ensure that it’s dry. If you don’t have a broom handy, there is a simple way to do that. You have to start breaking down the tent by removing the rain fly and the stakes that are holding it down. On the mallet we have used to hammer in the stakes, notice there’s a hook at the end. This is what we’ll use to remove them. If the ground is hard and dry, you may need to loosen the stake first by pounding on it from the side a few times. Once that is accomplished, you should be able to insert the stake and simply remove the stake from the ground like so. Again, do this at all four corners of your tent before continuing on to cleaning. Once the stakes are removed, with the pole still in the tent, it’s simple to just tilt the tent up on its side and shake out any dirt and debris that might have accumulated inside while you are camping. This is also useful and it will let you right away if there is any residual condensation or moisture inside the tent. Any moisture of any kind once the tent is packed up will mildew. So if necessary at this stage you would want to leave the tent out to dry."
