"I have costumers come in and they have looked at a set of hiking poles and they go. Oh, my goodness why is that so expensive? Well its all about the features. The more features the more expensive it is. Often your more higher end poles will have a carbide tip right here. That carbide tip is a little more expensive but it is going to give you better traction on the trail. Lesser expensive ones will be ones like steal. On the other hand here?s a handle this one happens to be ergonomic there?s a R on this one. This is right hand so its ergonomically designed for my right hand. The left hand is going to different so that?s an extra step in the manufacturing process brings the price up. On the inside it has a camming device allows you to adjust the length and you see that little red part come up and the black part expands it holds it inside the shaft. Then there is also a shock absorption value to the this pole so as your going down hill you place that a little less jarring on your wrist. So all these things come together and form a more expensive but higher functioning pole. If you have any questions give your local outfitter a holler."
