"Now, I'm going to talk a little bit about ultra light backpacking. Not too many people do this, big couple years ago, but essentially what you've got is a pack, twenty pounds or less; going under twenty pounds. Don't necessarily need a frame, here's an ultra light pack, which is actually, it's actually marketed toward venture racing. But, some people use it for that. As you notice, there's no there's no frame in it, there's no stiffener, there's no way for the weight that goes into it to be transferred to the hip belt. So, what some people do, is they'll take their sleeping pad and they usually use closed cell foam, cause that would be the lightest pad, and, they'll actually line the pack with this, and this acts as a frame. Again, when you're picking a pack like this, you're thinking lightest of light, cutting your handle off your toothbrush and drilling holes in it, cutting straps off, all those things. A little bit here, little bit there to bring the weight down. But, definitely if you decide to use this method, don't be one of those people that come into the shelte, late at night bumming food off of people, make sure that you bring what you need. It's one thing to keep the pack weight down, but, you'll want to make sure that you take what you need. If you have any questions, give your local outfitter a holler."
