"Leave no trace: that's a great way to think when you're out on the trail. We have to take care of our environment and make sure it's around for many, many years, and the leave-no-trace philosophy is what it's all about. In the leave-no-trace, when you camp somewhere, you want to look for established campsites. You don't want to be looking for places where you have to actually kind of tear things out to make the environment be your campsite. So, the best campsites are ones that you actually find and not make. Stay on the trail. The trail is that wide, that's enough for a person to get through. You start doing cut-throughs, you have problems with erosion, and it just makes the land not look so nice. Also in the leave-no-trace philosophy, you're also taking care of the animals and understanding that you are a visitor when you're out there, and not the conqueror. You don't go out there to conquer; you go out there to coexist with nature. So take care of the trails and they'll take care of you. If you have any questions on that, look at the Leave No Trace Web site at lnt.org."
