"Alright, let's assume that we're in the water and we want to get out. One of the first things we want to do since we have our flotation and safety spikes, is whistle. Whistle for help. Try to get yourself up on the ice enough that you could put your arms first here, pull your chest up onto the ice and by distributing your weight you want to bring your leg up off to one side. Don't try to lean forward, the ice will just break right in front of you. Try to bring one leg up and then an arm, pull your belly up sideways and then roll distributing your weight, roll forward on the ice until you're on ice that's thick enough to support your entire body. By distributing your weight throughout your body you'll be able to maintain a lot more weight on thinner ice."
