"Alright now we are going to talk about the different colors of ice. There are a lot of different colors and those colors tell us how strong the ice can be. As we talked about earlier when we were drilling holes with our auger, we want to look down the hole and following the end of this scoop we can see that we have got some very good strong clear black ice down here. Now this is lake ice and lake ice is always stronger than river or stream ice because there is less current so you got a good clear black ice here maybe a little bit of green involved in there as well. The green can be caused from vegetation or reflection off of the shoreline. On top of that we have a milky ice which has a lot of air bubbles in it. This is significantly less strong than the clear black or green or blue ice. Blue ice will typically happen on larger lakes on very sunny days where it is reflecting the sky."
