"Hi, I'm Bill with Zoar Outdoor here on behalf of expertvillage.com. Today we're at Chapel Ledges in Ashfield, Massachusetts, Trustees of the Reservation Property and in this series we're going to be talking about rock climbing gear. So how do you take care of all this climbing gear stuff? Well you want to try and keep them clean, you don't want to throw them down in a big mud puddle, you don't want to step on them while you're out climbing but they're still going to get dirty. You can wash them in your bathtub, use a really gentle soap or even no soap at all just let the water do the work. The tub will get all dirty but it'll get your rope clean, that helps it to last longer because the grit of the dirt isn't going to wore away if the fibers inside it. Carribeaners can get squeaky, you don't want to put a whole lot of gopy oil on, but a little bit of bike lube is a good thing in the hinge where the spring is if it's a twist lock you might want to oil that up or the spring lock mechanism of auto lock carribeaner. All this other gear, you want to keep it neat and organize, you want to make sure that it doesn't end up living in the trunk of your car, but that's going to take care of itself pretty well."
