"Now that we are ready to race, you want to think about getting licensed as a cyclist. Now you can be an unlicensed rider and still compete in events but it is more beneficial to go ahead and get your license because each time you go out and race, you are going to pay a one day fee for your license anyway. So if you plan on racing more than one race, it is beneficial to go ahead and get your license. You can get your license through USA Cycling and you can find them on the Internet and it is very inexpensive. I believe right now it is $35 per year. As a woman, you will start out as a category 4 rider and for a man, you will be a category 5 rider and if you are serious about getting into competitive cycling, this is definitely the next step you want to take.
