"ALVIN DEDEAUX: So now, I want to select some material to use for the tail. And you can see I've tied quite a few flies with this tail, so a lot of this stuff is going to be useless here. The really thin pieces out near the end might be good for some really small flies, but this is a pretty good-sized hook as far as nymphs go. So I'm going to use some of this heavier stuff here near the base of the hook and I'm gonna--I want to make a pretty good-sized tail on this one, because this is a pretty good-sized hook. So I'll get a pretty good clump of those fibers. That's my tail. And just cut it off down near the base. Cut it off closely then you know, okay, I've already used that part. You know, you're not like--next time you grab it, you're like, "Okay, that's done." All right. Put that down, kinda take those fibers. And I'm going to stroke them, kinda get them all together. Look at that and go, okay, it's that--that's about the right amount for that fly. I mean, that's about the right distance. I think I'll put a little bit more on there, so let me just grab another little clump. I like the tail to be nice and full. Okay, so that--yeah, that looks better. That's about the right amount for that size hook. That's about the right amount of tail for that hook. Okay, so I'm going to go ahead and grab it in front of where I want to tie it on and just clip off that excess. And now I'm ready to attach that tail."
