"ALVIN DEDEUX: Hackle pliers are another really helpful tool for palmering your hackle. What you do is grab the hackle with the pliers, like so. And you got a couple of options at this point. You can just do your traditional palmering, stick your fingers in the opening on the hackle pliers and just kinda go around forward. Or if you have a rotary vise with the bobbin cradle, it really works well to just hold it, like so, and spin your fly. Especially some of the thinner hackle, the pliers are really nice because it gets a good grip on the material. And I just keep it in the hackle pliers until I've got it tied off at the front. Hold it up and clip it. Okay. There you go. Hackle pliers, another great tool."
