Using a Whip Finish Tool for Fly Tying

"ALVIN DEDEUX: Another essential tying tool is the whip-finish tool. They come in a bunch of different shapes and sizes. A larger one for bigger hooks or if you're trying to do a whip finish on the back end of the hook instead of the front end of the hook, you might get this longer one. And they're just made to do a whip finish which is a type of knot that we do at the end of the fly to finish it off so that the thread doesn't unravel. You can also do it with your hands but it's a lot easier to do it with the tool, and I'd suggest maybe a couple different-sized tools and maybe get one that fits your hand better. Some of them will have like a rotating handle so that when you're spinning it around the hook, it's a little bit easier. This one is a non-rotator but you can just let it slide between your fingers as you're spinning it around the hook. This one may be a little bit quicker, may be a little bit easier to use. And you can see the different sizes on them, some bigger hooks and smaller hooks. But this one will also work on a smaller hook also, but the smaller one will be a little bit tougher to use on a big hook. So if you're just going to get one, maybe ere on the side of the larger-whip finished tool."
