Palomar Knots in Fly Fishing

"The next knot that we are going to do is a Palomar Knot. And this is a nice one because we end up with two strands of our leader material in the hook eye and some people think that, that makes it a lot stronger knot because you've got twice the material going through the eye of the hook and it increases the breaking strength a little bit. So to start it off, we loop our material back over itself and then we take the loop and poke it through the eye of the hook, like so. So we've got two lengths of leader material going through the eye of the hook. Then, real simple, just take that and tie an overhand knot in it, like so. Okay, you've got an overhand knot. Then basically take that and put the hook through that overhand knot. Pull that whole thing tight, and you've got a Palomar. A that's a really strong knot because I've got my leader material going through the eye of the hook two times so it is going to be a little bit harder to break that one, than if it just went through once. It's a really easy knot to tie, although you do use a lot of the leader material when you tie that knot just because you have to make that double pass through the eye of the hook. Clip it off, nice and close and there we go."
