One could argue that shapely, sexy legs are the pillars upon which American standards of beauty are set. Cultural demands shift from generation to generation, and the twiggy models of the ‘60s were out. But, although the sinewy, sporty models of the ‘80s were short-lived, Kate Moss brought skinny back to the forefront of visual culture. Nowadays, hopefully, a healthier feminine image is being sold to male and female consumers of popular culture. The popularity of J Lo, Beyonce, and Shakira has brought curves back into the spotlight. Even if Americans are finally becoming open to more natural, curvy shapes, the pressure to be fit and trim still exists. You may totally disagree with standards of beauty and the patriarchal obsession with the female body, but regular exercise and strength training will also help you stay healthy. Period. And being healthy is not so bad.

"Hi! I'm Jamie Smithers and I'm here on behalf of Expert Village today to teach you how to get rid of that troublesome inner thigh. The most important thing before we really begin working out different kinds of exercises is to warm up the body to get the muscles really ready to perform, to get our heart rate up, and to get the blood flowing. The easiest way to do that is to go for a little jog. We can just jog in place. Maybe a 2 minute jog, a high knee run. Either way it doesn't matter, but let's just start getting that heart rate going. We can pull the high knees up here. I can show you that from the side. High knees up. If you don't feel ready to do high knees up, that's fine. Just start doing a little jog in place. We just really want to get our heart rate going. You'll feel your legs starting to tighten up. Running is great to work out all those muscles all the way through the inside of your muscle. It's the first thing before we can get going, because these muscles, sometimes they're things that we don't work in our everyday life, so it's really important to be sure that we're prepared and ready to go."
