"The next topic we are going to cover is nutrition, pre run and post run. Ideally, pre run you'd like to have a light meal consisting of mainly carbohydrates. Something like a bagel, a sandwich, something light that can be digested within a couple of hours. That?s the time you should give yourself before your run. That allows your digestive system to break the food down. If it?s not completely broken down your digestive system will need blood to break it down and that will take blood away from your legs that you are going to need when you are running. That will cause cramping and it will ruin your run. Then post race, ideally you want a simple carbohydrate, some fruit, some sugar followed up with a type of weight protein or protein like eggs that can be easily digested and repair the muscle tissue that?s just broken down during the run."
