"GINA KENNEDY: Faith and I are going to be demonstrating bridge pose, not only using a block under your spine for support, but also using a block in between the knees to ensure proper placement of the knees. So, I'm going to ask Faith to press into her feet as she inhales and squeeze through her thighs and then, as she exhales, draws her belly button into her spine and rolls up one vertebra at a time. Good. So, she's going to lift up on her toes just so I can slip this block long ways underneath the sacrum. Good. Is that in the right place? Good. And notice how this helps her spine to have some support. Good. Now, one of the worst things--one of the things I see people--the worst mistake that they make is to allow their knees to come out like this. Okay. So in order to keep the knees in their proper position, I'm going to ask Faith to squeeze through the block. Good. Now, her knees are properly in line with her spine. Good. And now if she'd like to take this to a little bit more, she can lift up off the block, still squeezing her knees together. Good. This engages her thighs and allows the thighs to do the work rather than her back, allowing her to open her chest and stay there just a little bit longer. Whenever she needs to, she can lower back down to the block. Good. So that's bridge pose with proper alignment using the block."
