"For the upper body we're going to introduce the exercise band. The exercise band is a great piece of equipment for any home training program. They come in a variety of textures and also thickness which provides a separate level of tension. You can start off with one of the thinner bands, they are all color coded, fairly long, lots of stability, lots of slack. Or you could go with a very thick plastic or nylon band that is very tense, not a whole lot of slack and makes for a lot of resistance on your movements. Now, let's start off with the real traditional upper body exercise the simple bicep curl. How I have my foot positioned on the bottom of the rope determines how much tension I have. If I use two feet I have a lot of tension. If I use one foot I don't have that much tension. The purpose of this exercise is to strengthen the biceps. We start off with the arms nice and straight 90 degrees. Squeeze those bicep muscles, curl those arms up as tight as you can and then release the motion. Fairly simple! What about something for the shoulders? Well, we can get our foot in here, get our hands up on top of our shoulders and we can do an over head shoulder press. Fairly light, add some tension to it by using both of my feet. Now we have some resistance here, now those deltoids are really going to burn. How about something for the lats and the deltoids? We can cross the cables over one another and do an upright roll. Not a whole lot of tension, so let's make it a little bit more challenging. There, right away you can see the difference and you can feel it. It only takes about 10 or 15 reps, 3 to 4 sets of any of these movements for them to be effective."
