"As you become more comfortable and a little bit more advanced you could try a knee lift or like a delt raise. Of course you can add some dumbbells to the exercise as well. So when you're ready to try one of the advanced step up movements try simulating a running motion when you do your knee lift. For example, I'm going to pump up my left knee, keep my right leg nice and straight, as I bring my knee up I'm going to bring the right arm up as if I were running. That helps me get a little bit more balance and provides me some stability. Now, these advanced movements on one leg forces the entire body to have to go to work. It's a technique called proprioception. It allows the body to wake up muscles that we normally wouldn't use to help the actual movement. So, because we have good proprioception we can hold ourself balanced and do an extra movement at the same time. We can also try the delt raise or an overhead press. All those moves require the power leg to be secure and firm and the body to have enough stability, we can focus some of our energy on the extra movement. Once again, don't try these until you feel very comfortable with the simple step up move first, the box step up. Great exercise for the one leg at a time."
