"To practice yoga, you need a stable, comfortable position and a focus breath. In Vinyasa yoga, that stable, comfortable position flows from one position to another. The movements are required to have perfect efficiency and no extraneous movements. In this way, we can really, really focus our mind, be one pointed focus, which opens us up to a state of meditation where we can experience the union of the super-conscious with the single conscious. This is what we're working toward in Vinyasa yoga. In Vinyasa yoga, we use the Ujjayi breath with the movements. The Ujjayi breath is Pranayama, and this breath has a certain sound. So while you're moving in the Vinyasa with the Ujjayi breath, you are expanding and contracting in the same way that your heart beats, that the sun rises and sets, that the Earth spins on its axis. There has to be an exact movement for the earth to spin exactly on its axis or for my heart to beat exactly. This is what our practicing of Vinyasa is going to create, and some of the things that I would love to show you today."
