Hi! I want to introduce you to the skateboard. Before you learn how to skateboard, it's important to know the parts of the skateboard and some of its uses. A skateboard consists of a deck, trucks that hold the axel that hold the wheels. We'll get into further depth about the parts later. Skateboarding is used for transportation, recreation to get exercise, and the modern skateboard is used in competitions and as a sport. It's even right now being considered as an Olympic possibly in the future. Modern skateboarding involves tricks using ramps, bowls, obstacles. Some consider it a sport. Some consider it an art form. One major difference between the modern skateboard and older skateboards is that modern skateboards have the top deck completely covered in grip tape, a sand like tape that's adhesive on one side, stays on the board, and prevents your shoes from slipping off. Another major difference is that modern skateboards are concave. Unlike the older skateboards, which were just a flat piece of wood, the concave skateboard allows you more mobility and allows you to maneuver your board a lot easier. Concave in the front, concave in the back, and slightly concave on the side to keep your feet from flipping off. No matter what you think about skateboarding, as long as you're safe, as long you maintain a positive attitude, it can be a fun and rewarding way to get exercise, stay and shape, keep your limbs flexible, and most of all, have a ton of fun.
