Making a Straight Line in Rodeo Barrel Racing

"Hi I'm Holly Heidemann on behalf of Expert Village and the last thing I'm going to show you today with the barrels is that sometimes when people are running between the 2nd and the 3rd barrel, they'll exit that 2nd barrel very widely, and what will happen is they will make a big swooping loop down to the 3rd barrel and that wastes all kinds of time because in math we all know that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line. So we want to make that line off the 2nd barrel going to the 3rd barrel, the pocket for the 3rd barrel, as straight as possible. So in order to do that, you are on my left side right now, so this is like I turned the 2nd barrel, I'm going to apply my right leg if I feel that horse floating at all. So if they are floating over here to the right to make that big looping turn up to the 3rd barrel, I'm just going to use my right leg a little bit, depending on how hard your horse is floating out and that's how hard you use your leg. Sometimes you just squeeze your calf muscle a little bit, sometimes you are going to have to apply your spurs. It just depends on how much your horse is wanting to drift to the side. It will shave a 1/2 of second of your time lots of time if you can fix that problem."
