"Hi, I'm Kelli and this is Covey and on behalf of Expert Village, we are going to show you my options and techniques on how to free lunge your horse. So when we are done with our work out and we want them to stop, make her go forward her a little bit. We are going to trot, have her to go out here on the rail. So when we are done, we are going to say whoa, we are going to drop our whip. Whoa, whoa, so we are going to make sure they completely come to a stop and we are going to walk up really slowly towards them. We are going to walk more towards their shoulder and make eye contact with their shoulder. We are going to touch the shoulder first and then we are going to grab the halter. If you look directly on the horses head or directly to the eye, you might come off to be more threatened. Horses are more fright animals so they have the tendency to run away if they feel threatened so you want your horse to stay there and calm so you can catch them. So if make eye contact and walk directly towards their shoulder, you are approaching them in more a passive manner so you are non- threatened. So that would make them feel a lot calmer that you are not going to harm them when you walk up to them. So that is how you want to stop your horse and catch it when you are finish with your exercise.
