Preparing to Saddle Your Horse Western Style

"Hi, I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to show you my tips and techniques to saddle your horse with the western saddle. First thing we would do when we begin to groom our horse is we are going to curry. So we are going to be using a curry comb which is a brush like this and it has a bunch of little teeth. So we are going to take the brush, we are going to start at the neck and we are going to do it in little circular motions. This would loosen any encrusted dirt, any encrusted sweat that might be deep down in the fur, deep down in the skin. Most of the time they would really like this especially if they a little bit itchy and you get all their scratches out. We just going to do it in little circular motions. We are applying a lot of pressure, we are doing it pretty vigorously. This also helps stimulate your horses circulation, stimulate there blood flow. So we can get nice and ready for a work if you preparing to ride them afterwards. Plus if they have any type of hair that is ready to shed this would loosen that up and get rid of that for you. If they have any kind of fungus or or skin problems, any kind of dandruff it would loosen that up as well so you can prepare to brush that off. So now we would move around to the other side. I'm going to make sure that I let her know that I'm walking around. I'm going to walk enough distance that she would not be able to kick me. You never want to walk directly behind a horse. I'm going to walk back up to her side here and I'm just going to give her a pat and let her know that I'm here. Then I'm just going to repeat the same thing really quickly here on the other side. Just in little circular motions, really vigorously to loosen any dirt or sweat. I would walk back around, walk enough distance away. Let her know that I'm here. That is how you want to curry your horse."
