"Hi! I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I'm going to show you my opinions and techniques on how to properly lead your horse. One thing that is really important that you want to make sure your horse knows how to do is how to stop on a lead. Because if yoiu can't get your horse to stop, you have much more likelihood of being drug about the farm yard. So when walking your horse, you want to say whoa to them, pull back. If they keep going, you want to pull back harder and a really good technique that you can use is to teach your horse to stop better is if they keep walking and you say whoa and pull back and they won't stop, pull until you actually gt them to back up. Horses like to stop a lot more than they like to go backwards. So if you keep using this technique, the horse will be very happy when you say whoa and stop and stand still versus actually back up. So you always want to make sure that that is a very important skill you teach your horse is how to stop when you say whoa because otherwise, it can be very dangerous. So that is how you want to teach your horse to stop. "
