"Hi! I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you my opinions and techniques on how to properly lead your horse. So now that we've put on our horse's halter and we've clipped our lead rope on, we are going to leave the paddock. So when you are leading your horse, you want to be leading on the left side. You want to make sure you are holding your lead rope in a our left hand. You want to make sure that we don't have the lead rope wrapped around our hand because if the horse would happen to pull away, your hand would get caught in there and cause some injury. We are going to be holding the lead rope with our right hand right up here under our chin. So we are going to walk towards the gate, ask her to stop, going to place the lead rope in my right hand, going to slide the gate open hopefully, and I am going to pull her out. I am going to make sure that I walk in front of her and I am going to turn her towards me and ask her to stop and I will slide this gate closed. You always want to make sure that you close the gate after you open it. Just in case, you never know if there is another horse in there that maybe you missed and would hate to have one get loose on your watch. You also want to make sure that you have your horse facing you when you turn around. Never get too close to the behind end of the horse because you never know what might startle it and what might kick. So you always want to have your guard up a little bit with the most gentle horse. So that is how you would want to exit the paddock. "
