"Hi! I'm Kelli on behalf of Expert Village. I am going to show you my opinions and techniques on how to properly lead your horse. First thing we will need to do is actually catch our horse. So this is Colby and she has been turned out in the paddock here. So we are going to walk up to her, walk up to her in a non-threatening way and we always want to walk up to where they can see us. So if you walk towards the shoulder and make eye contact towards the shoulder, that's the least threatening way to approach a horse. You never want to approach a horse directly behind them and you always want to talk to them to let them know that you are there so that you don't startle them and make them run from you. So you just approach them in a non-threatening way. Walk up and just pat them, talk to them, give them a nice pat, let them know it is okay and that you are not there to harm them in any way. They should come to you, stand to you and be really nice and submissive."
