on 1/2/2009 I have adopted a Ferret that has been raised on cat food and that is the only thing he will eat. So my question is can I force feed him through a syringe or eye dropper the duck soup? He will not take to the new food on his own as I have tryed many different foods on him such as fresh salmon (cooked),chicken, bananas etc. He is rather skinny and needs to gain some weight. He is about 3 years old. Ron...

"My name is Fran Friedman and I'm with Morning Start Animal Sanctuary and I am here to talk to you about duck soup for ferrets on behalf of expertvillage.com. Some people have had ferrets for many years and they are getting on age where they are one of the many that have come down with an illness s they need that extra boost and I would like to give you my duck recipe which there is many out there. They all do vary but my ferrets seem to really like this one and any ferrets that we bring into the sanctuary, we find that they are not really adjusting to the food right away. This is what they get for that extra boost. It is also given to sick ferrets and ferrets that are older. First you would take 4 cups of dry Kibble. Make sure it is a high level ferret food; either Missouri A&F or 8 in 1 Ultra Blend. Four cups into a large bowl. You are going to add 8 cups of water and let it sit there a full day until it is really full of water and mushy. Then you add a quarter cup of Karo Syrup, 1 can or 2 cans of chicken broth, 2 baby food chicken; they are in the small bottles. Some people like to add real chicken but you have to mince it up and 1 large jar of banana baby food. Once the food is mushy, you add all the other ingredients. I use a mixer that I have especially for my ferret food mixture. You mix it all up until it is all soupy. If it is too thick you can add more water or add more chicken broth. You also needs 2 cans of Ensure High Protein. Our ferrets like either vanilla or banana flavor and you add that. You mix it all up. When it is nice and soupy what we do with ours because it only stays 48 hours in the refrigerator because of the Ensure mixed in, you have to put it in ice cube trays and put in freezer and pop them out. If you want to use your trays in the meantime because you probably won't go through it as fast as we do with all these ferrets, but you pop it out into big baggies and keep it in the freezer. You should give your ferret if its ill or elderly a duck soup in the morning, 1 cube and a duck soup in the afternoon. "
